A Necron lord surrounded by purple chronomantic lightning, from the Dawn of War 4 Necron CGI trailer.

Dawn of War 4 Necrons

Short answerOfficial

The Dawn of War 4 Necrons are slow but very hard to kill: their buildings spread a Power Matrix that heals and toughens units and earns the Dominion resource.

Resurrection Galleries bring dead units back for free, and Tomb Pylons and the Monolith let them teleport across the map.

The Power Matrix

The upgradeable Tomb Citadel is the Necron headquarters and production engine. Many Necron buildings can only go on the Power Matrix, and each one spreads it further.

The bigger the Power Matrix, the more Dominion you earn. Units on it heal faster and get tougher on top of their normal out-of-combat healing.

KING Art changed the Power Matrix after community feedback, shown in the September 9, 2026 Battlefield Report.

Slow, but everywhere

With a few exceptions, Necron units are slower than other armies. Scarabs are the fast exception: cheap swarms that pin enemy ranged units in melee.

Canoptek Spyders raise Tomb Pylons anywhere; units leaving the Tomb Citadel can teleport to them. The Translocation Science Stratagem moves up to five units to any visible spot.

Chronomancer Thothmek bends time to empower his legions; Ahmnok prefers to fight up close.
