Ability
Auger Vision
Shows a heatmap of enemy activity under the fog of war: not exact, but enough to react early.
Weapons, wargear and veterancy
Many units take alternative weapons and wargear, such as Intercessor rifles or Meganobz kombi-weapons, so a squad can be fitted against groups or against heavy targets.
Veterancy improves stats and unlocks abilities to different extents per faction; Orks level up fastest.
Cover, retreat and reinforcement
Cover cuts ranged damage a lot, as directional cover or garrisonable buildings. Flamers and grenades ignore it, and melee forces units out.
Retreat pulls a unit back to the nearest production building with reduced damage taken. While its icon is yellow, the order can be cancelled.
On-field reinforcement is the strongest of the three: units on auto-reinforce are much harder to kill, but drain resources fast.
